Paramount Jamaica Hosts Sika Seminar

Leading engineers, architects and contractors from Western Jamaica benefited from a seminar, which will bolster the capacity of the industry as a result of their exposure to the latest technologies in the construction sector.

The seminar, which was held on August 29 at the Montego Bay Conference Centre in St. James was organised by the Hugh Graham led company, Paramount Jamaica, a publicly-traded company in Jamaica, which provides construction materials and application services, chemical products, industrial lubricants and haulage services.

Sika is an international specialty chemicals company operating out of the US, and Paramount Jamaica has been their leading distributor in Jamaica for the last eight years.

Vaughn Phang, Chief Operations Officer of Paramount Jamaica said the Sika Seminars were geared towards raising awareness of proven Sika technologies in repair and rehabilitation of distressed concrete, as well as advanced waterproofing and anti-corrosion for coastal construction and water retaining structures.

“The Sika Seminars is our response to an industry, which has been demanding technical advice and support on products and long-term solutions,” he said.

Phang noted that Paramount Jamaica has embarked on a journey to increase brand awareness for Sika through a series of seminars that will be conducted for the industry. He said Western Jamaica was selected first as, over the years, there has been an increased demand for the Sika products. Other seminars are scheduled for Kingston.

“While a physical location is not yet available, we want to ensure that western Jamaica is familiar with our free delivery services that offer maximum access to our products, services and support,” he said.

“Our goal is to provide support to the construction industry drawing from a broad portfolio of technologies in order to offer the most innovative solutions within each competency, namely: bonding, sealing, reinforcing and protecting. We are committed to supplying industry players with a brand that they can trust, always fulfilling the highest quality standards,” he added.

Greg Illig of Sika said his organisation was happy to be partnering with Paramount Jamaica in hosting the seminars in Jamaica and is looking forward to the next forum in Kingston later this year.

These seminars will benefit the construction industry and will provide more options to the sector. We are an international brand that has been around for over 100 years. The brand is recognized worldwide for providing quality products and solutions and has consistently invested in research and development, creating new and innovative solutions as the construction industry evolves,” he said.

Phang said Paramount Jamaica is a unique entity in the market and the level of innovation of the Sika products fits ideally with the brand and the company’s strategic direction.

Paramount Jamaica began operation in Kingston, Jamaica on February 21, 1991, as a manufacturers’ representative and commission agent. The company was founded by Managing Director, Hugh Graham, with the support of Directors Daryl Fong Kong and Richard Rogers. On December 31, 2012, Paramount Trading (Ja.) Ltd. became a publicly-traded company by listing on the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s Junior Market.

With steady growth throughout the years, the company’s product lines include raw material chemical distribution, Stamina Trucking & Transport haulage services, the distribution of Sika construction products and more recently, Allegheny Petroleum lubricants and oils.
